Thom Yorke Makes Everything Seem Alright

Man, anytime Thom Yorke does something you can pretty much guarantee that it will be newsworthy. He's playing a live gig. He's doing a song for the Twilight movie. He's recording a cover for a cool compilation. Here's the thing though - it's newsworthy because it's probably really freaking good. That live show would have been amazing to see. The song for New Moon will probably be really dope. And this live cover is completely off the hook.

The cover I'm talking about is called "All For The Best," and it comes from Ciao My Shining Star: The Songs of Mark Mulcahy. As you might expect, this is a cover compilation of songs written by Mark Mulcahy. Mulcahy is a songwriter best known for his role as frontman of a band called Miracle Legion. More awesome is that Mulcahy played in the house band for The Adventures of Pete & Pete. Baller.

Sadly, Mulcahy's wife recently died. This compilation is a benefit for Mark, who now has the task of raising 3 year old twins on his own. Heartbreaking is the only word for it.

This song, given the context, is completely breathtaking. Everything Thom touches turns to gold, and this track is of a rare purity - emotional, simultaneously raw and polished. I can't stop listening to it. You're so beautiful it seems, on a lonely, lazy morning. And when I see you rocking back and forth - whispering that it's all for the best...

Also, here is my favorite TY solo song - totally gorgeous. Plus a bonus Four Tet remix. So much awesome on a single cut!
