Stu Reid Under the Covers: A Show to Make You Think

Chris, Claire and I just finished watching the first season of The Wire and I still cannot get certain images and social questions out of my head. When a show manages to be exciting both because of action and a twisted plot, but also because of the continual moral dilemmas that are broached; you have a special work of art. The secret beauty of The Wire is that nobody is ever completely right and everyone evokes empathy at some point. Brilliant. The song Way Down in a Hole originally written by Tom Waits is The Wire's theme song, but the trick is that for every season a different cover of the song is used for the opening credits. The first season used the version by Blind Boys of Alabama to great effect and I'm sure they will all sound great. Included here is the gritty original by Tom Waits and a cover by M.I.A. (!) and Blaqstarr that grooves it up into a dark, dark jam. LISTEN CAREFULLY.

According to Blaqstarr's MySpace, the track is titled "Save Ur Soul SUS ft. M.I.A."
