2010 was a huge year for music, as all of the year end lists beginning to circulate are showing. From hip hop and R&B to indie and pop there were important and truly stunning albums released from all corners of the music landscape. One album that was criminally under-appreciated, at least on this end, was At Echo Lake by Woods. Their second album, At Echo Lake is a mature statement and a classic woods rock album. Homey, intimate, accessible, and bucolic, Woods craft hymns to nature that are at once communal, yet intensely personal; danceable, yet melancholy. And that use hand claps, what else do you need for a good ole' indie hoedown. Seriously though, At Echo Lake will be on my top albums of the year list and everyone should check it out. It will surprise you how much you will connect to this album.
