While they unfortunately just missed out on my favorite albums of 2010 list (which is coming tomorrow btw), I cannot end the year without a quick nod to Glasser and Buke and Gass. Both of these bands are powerful, yet in distinctly there own ways. Buke and Gass border on out-of-control and jam out on instruments of their own creation, constructing walls of frenetic sound that pierce one's consciousness. While Buke and Gass is the ragged preacher gesticulating on the corner, Glasser is the immaculate and awe-inspiring statue inside the church. Glasser's songs are grand and majestic with just enough accessibilty to allow for emotional investment, while still remaining aloof and out of reach. At once primal and angelic, Apply by Glasser is a perfect example of their sound. I love both of these songs, and both of these bands - big things to come.
