Confession: I Slept On Fever Ray

We here at TSRE occasionally miss some things. Unbelievable, I know, but it’s true. This year alone, we slept on Discovery, St. Vincent, and probably loads of other great stuff. In truth, though, there’s something weirdly exciting about discovering great music after everyone else has already moved on. There’s nothing better than turning to a friend and saying “Damn, this album is GREAT,” only to have them reply “I know! Here’s what’s great about it!”

Just this week, in my hustle to catch up on some albums I missed this year, I listened to Fever Ray’s self titled debut for the first time. It’s glorious. Dark and brooding. It almost seems like this album is built on a grander scale than most records – there’s an eye to something bigger here.

Fever Ray is one half of the brother/sister duo that makes up The Knife (the sister half). I find it much more pleasant than The Knife, though. It’s a patient album with weird twists and turns that keep you guessing. Can’t recommend this one highly enough.
