With Thanksgiving behind us and Christmas rapidly approaching, I've been thinking quite a bit recently about everything I have to be thankful for. Additionally, its almost time to start rolling out our attempts at the top albums, songs and fashion choices of the year.
A couple of related aspects of the music world I am particularly thankful for this year are the glo-fi and DIY aesthetics in indie music this year. Whether electronic and synthy, or afropopy and folky 2009 truly has been the year of ramshackle sounds. I am in love with Tune Yards and Washed Out, but Le Loup and Family Portrait have also released some under the radar gems this year drawing on that beautiful raw and hazy, but still delightfully poppy sound.
