Where the Wild Things Are is getting a ton of hype right now and deservedly so. Instead of going off on a love fest about the Spike Jonze or the heartwarming children's story, I would like to say a few words about the amazing soundtrack. I really like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, so imagine my delight when I noticed that Karen O wrote the entire soundtrack for the film. Unlike her usual gritty stuff, Karen O lets all of her pent up sunlight out on the OST. Swirling vocals, jubilant kids' shouts, whistling, acoustic guitar and handclaps galore make the soundtrack a joy. During a listen, I constantly find myself transported back to sunny days past and all sorts of memories begin to pop up. If this music is any indication, Where the Wild Things Are is going to be massive. Lets not overlook the fact that Maurice Sendak, being such a brilliant writer and illustrator, included some pretty frightening and adult themes into all of his works, which really makes them speak to people of all ages as well. I am in love with this soundtrack and this side of Karen O. Let the wild rumpus start!
