Today's afternoon video is a phenomenal version of Yeasayer playing "Tightrope", from the Dark Was The Night compilation, live in studio. It is, as one of the comments actually articulates, a great look at a breath taking band. We saw these guys play last winter with MGMT, and they completely stole the show - amazing energy, skillful playing, and great cohesion as a group. With the difficult rhythms they utilize and the seemingly bottled up energy of lead singer Chris Keating, Yeasayer could easily be a band that stuns in studio but disappoints in a live setting.
Not so, however. I'm psyched to see these guys continuing to put out boundary-stretching tunes that are at once accessible and mindbending. Keep your eyes on their recording blog, as they're in studio cranking out a new LP. One of the records I'm most looking forward to this year.
Here's the album cut of "Tightrope", as well as a Pocketknife remix of "Sunrise" that I've repped before, but still can't get enough of.
